Granwood Flooring Refurbishment at Exeter School

We are the go-to company in Exeter for any sports flooring contracts as we have worked at nearly every institute there is. This time, the team were working at Exeter school which had an old ill-maintained granwood sports floor. Our specification for the contract was to abrade and deep clean the surface of the sports hall; fill in any cracks and apply an epoxy system. The team then had to install the games line markings and finally, apply a sports lacquer for a protective finish.

The original floor had received a lot of wear and tear over the years and the court markings had faded. The lacquer coating on the flooring had faded away giving a patchy effect. The team began the contract by filling in any cracks or imperfections in the floor. This was an essential part of the project as any flaws in the granwood would show through the Epoxy coating. Once completed, the floor was then ready to be abraided to rid the floor of any loose material.

The Restoration Process

After the floor was cleaned, the first coat of blue Epoxy was applied to the floor. This is a very slow process across all 600 square meters of the Sports Hall! After the second coat went down and had cured, the team were able to install the court lines. This process took the team four days to mark and paint each set of lines. Two coats of gloss lacquer were needed to add a ‘Wow’ factor to the Sports Hall. The lacquer also helps protect the finished result of the flooring for years to come. After the floor was cleaned, the first coat of blue Epoxy was applied to the floor.
