Exmouth Pavilion Flooring Refurbishment

Exmouth Pavilion Flooring Refurbishment

This contract that courtship flooring carried out was at Exmouth Pavilion, a beautiful old building is situated in the centre of the esplanade with a stunning view of the mouth of the river Ex. We made sure to have all our lunch breaks outside!

The Exmouth pavilion has a beautiful 300 square meters of Canadian maple flooring, which is a material that is less seen due to its high shipping costs. The frosty winters and temperate summers create very hardy trees, which makes the flooring very hardwearing.

The condition of the floor when the team arrived was tired and the lacquer on the surface of the floor had become patchy and worn in places. There was also damage and scratches on the floor. As the lacquer was too far gone to rescue, the floor required sanding back to the bare wood so that a strong lacquer could be applied. This would help to protect the floor for the future and give a uniform finish.

The Processes

The team started with the sanding process and began with a 40grit paper on the machines. The same process was then applied with 60grit and then 120grit papers. Once this part of the contract had been completed, the team used the orbital sanders to close the grain further. The team then hoovered the sports floor to make sure there was no dust in order to apply the primer coat of lacquer. Once this has dried over course of a few hours, they were able to knock back the grain to give a smooth feel to the floor. The team then applied the two further coats of lacquer.
