Courtship Flooring provides commercial sports hall flooring in Portsmouth: installation, refurbishment, floor sanding and sealing, court line marking and ongoing maintenance for schools, academies, colleges, universities, leisure trusts, local authorities and sports clubs.
We have been specialising in indoor sports and commercial timber floors since 1987. The business is family-run, nothing is subcontracted, and the crew who survey a building are the crew who work on it. Domestic and residential projects fall outside what we do and are looked after by our sister company, Ryan’s Restorations.

Our surveys produce evidence, not opinions. We measure moisture in and beneath the floor, assess board condition and how much depth remains for future sanding, check the sub-floor for movement and dead spots, and compare the court markings against current governing body specifications.
You receive a written report ranking what needs attention now, what can reasonably wait and what needs only maintenance, with firm costs against each. It is designed to be usable as budget evidence, and it is yours whether or not you use us for the work.
Marking one sport is simple. Marking five so that each remains readable at speed is a planning exercise, and it is where most halls go wrong. We build a deliberate hierarchy: the primary sport reads instantly, the rest sit clearly behind it in distinct colours and line weights.
Every court follows its current governing body specification, and school crests or club badges can be sealed beneath the final coats so they wear at the same rate as the floor around them. Full detail is on our line marking page.
A floor that looks fine can still test poorly, and for anyone carrying a duty of care that gap matters. We carry out pendulum slip resistance testing to BS 7976-2, recording values across multiple positions in wet and dry conditions, and issue a written report.
The test is also diagnostic. A low reading usually points to cleaning residue rather than a failed seal, which is a far cheaper problem to solve than most facilities expect.
Harris Academy wanted a sports floor to match its ambitions, so we fitted a complete Junckers solid-beech sports system, the same Danish flooring specified in elite competition venues, finished with full multi-sport line markings.
An installation like that is a long-term statement: properly maintained, it will outlast every pupil currently on the roll. The project ran to programme from bare sub-floor to handover.

It depends on what the floor actually needs. A deep clean is the least expensive intervention, a recoat sits in the middle, a full sand and seal above that, and replacement is the rare last resort. We survey free of charge and price every realistic option so you can choose on evidence.

A single-court hall usually takes four to five days including sanding, repairs, sealing, line marking and curing, which fits comfortably into a school holiday. Larger or multi-court halls take longer, and the full programme with a fixed reopening date is confirmed in writing before we start.
