Flooring Professionals To The Leisure Industry
Courtship Flooring provides commercial sports hall flooring in Southampton: installation, refurbishment, floor sanding and sealing, court line marking and ongoing maintenance for schools, academies, colleges, universities, leisure trusts, local authorities and sports clubs.
Established in 1987 and still family-run, we install, refurbish, sand, seal, mark and maintain indoor sports floors for schools, academies, colleges, universities, leisure trusts, local authorities and clubs. Every stage is carried out by our own team. We do not undertake domestic work; that is handled by our sister company Ryan’s Restorations.

A new sports floor is decided below the surface. We take moisture readings in and beneath the slab before anything is specified, because a floor laid over a substrate that has not finished drying will fail from underneath no matter how good the timber above it is. Levels are checked across the whole area, and the sub-floor build-up is chosen for the sports being played rather than lifted from a catalogue.
From there we lay solid or engineered timber, vinyl, polyurethane or lino, seal it, and mark every court on the timetable. Because we install every element ourselves, the warranty covers the whole system rather than the one part somebody was prepared to stand behind.
Most floors quoted for replacement do not need it. Timber is the only sports surface that can be renewed repeatedly, and a full sand and seal costs a fraction of a new installation while taking days rather than weeks.
The honest test is how much board remains above the tongue and whether the sub-floor is sound. Where there is depth left, restoration wins on cost, disruption and waste every time. Where moisture has got in or the structure has failed, we say so with the readings to prove it and quote the replacement properly.
The interval between refurbishments is where budgets are won or lost. A floor deep cleaned properly and recoated on schedule runs a decade between full sands; the same floor neglected needs machines back in half that time, and every full sand spends timber permanently.
Our plans cover annual deep cleaning from four pounds fifty per square metre, condition inspections, recoating at the right moment, repairs, relining and slip testing with written reports. We also train your own team on the daily routine, because most of the work between our visits is theirs.
Years of heavy use had left the sports hall floor at Aston University dull, patchy and worn along every busy lane. Our team sanded it back to bare timber, made good the damage, then rebuilt the finish with a durable seal and a full set of new markings, working around a demanding academic timetable.
The before and after photographs show what a properly executed refurbishment delivers: a floor that looks and plays like new, for a fraction of replacement cost and without weeks of disruption.

An outstanding company to deal with and they couldn’t have been better to work with. St George’s Ascot now has a stunning new sports hall floor and we are delighted. From quote, support, delivery and after sales, the Team has been brilliant. Thank you. ![]()

Price follows the size of the hall, the condition of the existing floor and the specification you choose rather than the postcode. Refurbishing a sound floor costs a fraction of replacing it, which is why we always price that route first. The survey is free and the quotation is fixed in writing.
Yes. Coverage is genuinely national, and where several facilities in one area need work, booking together shares the mobilisation and reduces the cost for each of them.
No. Courtship Flooring is a commercial contractor working on large-scale sports and institutional floors for schools, academies, universities, leisure trusts, councils and clubs. Private homes are handled by our sister company Ryan’s Restorations.
Our work is large-scale: full sports halls, multi-court leisure facilities, specialist court installations and whole-estate programmes across multiple sites. If you are unsure whether your project fits, call and we will tell you straight away rather than wasting your time.
Almost always, and it is usually the right answer. Sanding back to clean board, repairing and resealing costs a fraction of a new floor with far less disruption. We only recommend replacement where moisture or sub-floor failure genuinely rules restoration out, and we show you the readings.
